First Week

Whew! What a whirlwind of a week last week! I feel like it just flew by and we got so much done!

We spent the week getting to know each other with some ice breaker games, learning about our behavior plan BIST, and jumping right into curriculum in math, literacy, AND writing! We are already moving right along!

A couple things to let you know...

  • If you haven't signed up for Class Dojo yet, please head over and do that! An account code came home in your child's Wednesday folder. If you need another, please let me know and I will get that sent home. We use Class Dojo for EVERYTHING all day long and I am able to send you messages through the app so it is very convenient!
    • If you are unable to log into your student account, let me know and I will resend a code. It looks like there was a glitch and they had to reissue codes to some students so I'd be happy to print one for you!
  • We took a spelling pre test today and your child should have brought home either a yellow, green, or blue list. These are the words they will practice all week long to take a post test on Friday. In their homework folders are some suggested ideas to do at home to practice spelling words. You DO NOT have to do the spelling words every single day! Just a couple days a week will be great. Eventually we will be practicing them throughout our school day as well.
  • Please check your students Wednesday folder every week as they are full of important information about Meadow Lane and our classroom!
  • 2nd Graders will have homework pretty close to every day for the school year! This homework needs to be done and returned to school every school day!
  • We do a math workbook page during math every lesson. This workbook page is either done as a group, with a small group, or individually and it is sent home most days as we go over the answers. These workbook pages can be recycled or kept, they do not need to be returned to school!

Please let me know if you have any questions at all at any time! I will try to get back to you as soon as possible! I hope your child loves school and is as tired as I am at the end of every day! :)

Thank You!!!

Thanks to all of you for coming yesterday and for all of your support all year long! I really appreciate all of your kind words and encouragement and for sharing your child with me. As I said yesterday, I love each and every one of them and I can't wait to see them grow up in Meadow Lane!

Please keep in touch and always let me know if there is anything you ever need! Of course I am so happy summer is here, but today I am already missing my 2nd graders who are now big 3rd graders! Please stop by and see me next year! :)

I'm sure all of you have heard about our daily GoNoodle brain breaks that we do in our classroom. They get our kids up and moving and their brains working again!

GoNoodle is offering an online summer camp with brain breaks and activities for kids to do all summer long. These activities are separated into weeks and all you need is an internet connection, a computer, ipad, phone, etc, and a GoNoodle account. It's all free too!

If you are interested in it, here is the link to sign up!

Doane Multicultural Fair

We got to visit Doane College on Thursday for a multicultural fair. It was a long bus ride!

When we got there, all of the college helpers cheered for us and made a high five tunnel!

We got our name tags and headed off with our leaders.

We started the day making a banner with all of our hands and a word that we think of when we think of diversity.

 Then we learned some songs!

We got to eat lunch outside and then played a game. There was a leader that had to lead their blind partner to a tree. That partner was supposed to feel every part of that tree and then when they opened their eyes, had to go back and find the tree based on it's characteristics.

We played a similar game with potatoes and learning each characteristic about them, but knowing they are all the same on the inside!

We got to watch a magician!
 And a step team!

It was a fun (and exhausting!) day!

Wrigley came to visit!

Ms. Schlegel's pup Wrigley came to visit us on Wednesday! Despite how much crazy energy she has, she was very good and our class was so calm! We all got to pet her and give her belly rubs!

After we left, Wrigley got comfy in the library!
