Ms. Schlegel is doing a little blog catch up today! Here are a few pictures from when we found out that our butterflies had come out of the chrysalis! We were so excited when we came into the room!
We did a fun, simple butterfly craft where all of the butterflies stages of life was on one paper! I hope your child showed you all 4 and how to make them on their strip of paper!

A few things about 2nd Grade!
I have had a few questions that I wanted to clarify about 2nd grade! So far we have had such a great week! Your child is getting used to our new schedule and doing really well!
I had a few questions about the work coming home with them. This week we are just playing catch up and getting them used to school so there is some review work of 1st grade. Lots of papers are coming home in their backpacks each day! These papers can stay at home. Whatever work we are doing in class together, I check over while they are working on it and then they put it in their cubbies to bring home what they have been doing in class! Their green homework folder and math homework need to be returned each day.Wednesday folders come home on Wednesday with some important information for your household, these need to be returned everyThursday so we can prepare them to go home with you the next week!
We have jumped into our curriculum and our behavior plans right away so be asking your child about some of the things we have been working on as well as our BIST plan!
As always, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have!
(I will not always send the same email that I post to the blog, I'm just trying to get our entire class subscribed to the blog and then I will be just posting to here!)

Homework, Math, Conferences, Donations, Owl of the Week
It was a busy week in Kindergarten last week! With Constitution Day and picture day and finishing up our social studies unit on American symbols we have been working non stop!
I have talked to lots of parents about how excited their kids are to learn all about the United States! I'm so excited that they love learning about new things! We wore red, white, and blue for Constitution Day, had red, white, and blue popsicles and did lots of crafts including a bald eagle and an American flag!
Please remember to keep reminding your child that is is their responsibility to do their homework! They are learning to take care of their own things and turn their homework in every day! Every morning I remind them to take out their homework folders and anything else they have that they may need to turn in (lunch money, Wednesday folders, or notes for me). It is so great for them to be practicing such great responsibility and they are getting very good at our routines! We are getting ready for our math test at the end of this week, so there isn't much coming home for homework!
Here was a math activity we did where we drew self portraits and made a graph of our classroom!
Just a few things..
We have started Science and are learning about our five senses now! They were so excited to use the word epidermis when they got home to show you how much they have learned!
Thanks for bringing such great kids to school every day! I can't believe it is almost the end of September, it's flying by!

Just a few things..
- Conferences are October 1st - October 3rd. If you have not sent back the yellow half sheet of paper signed confirming your conference, please remember to do so as soon as possible!
- If anyone would like to come read to our classroom, let me know! We have lots of spots open and would love to see some of you!
- We also could use some more donations for our room if you are up for it! We are quickly running out of lots of items! If you would like, we could use anything from the list below
- Crayons
- Markers
- Colored Pencils
- Clorox Wipes
- Skinny Expo (Whiteboard markers)
- Kleenex
- A lot of you are bringing box tops to school! We do need a first and last name of your child on EVERY box top. I know this takes quite a bit of time, but it does help our school out a lot!
- Those of you that ordered from the book order, THANK YOU! You earned our class ten free books so we get to have a lot more variety in our classroom. We earned quite a few point too that I can use to purchase more books from our classroom as well!
- Picture Day went great and those should be arriving in a few weeks!
- Flappy the Owl had a great weekend with Jeter this weekend picking apples. Someone new will take Flappy home this Friday, so I hope he has a blast again!
- We are starting an Owl of the Week to get to know more about our students in our class! Ms. Schlegel is the Owl of the Week this week. If it is your turn, you will get a sheet to fill out, and some instructions on what to do! The kids LOVED the picture of Ms. Schlegel in Kindergarten!

Our first week of Kindergarten
Hey there!
Our first week of Kindergarten is finished! I had such a great week last week with all of your kiddos and we jumped right into our normal routine this week!
Some papers went home this week including some information about our behavior plan in our room, information on a Homework Helper, and a sheet about the rules of Meadow Lane. Please read these papers, go over them with your child, then sign and return the two that need to be at school.
If you have not yet returned the forms about Elementary Census Information or Dismissal Plan for your child, please send them to school as soon as you can!
There has been some confusion about our specials days relating to the lunch schedule. Kindergarten does have an E Day and that is not shown on the August lunch schedule. The September schedule will be fixed, but for the rest of August just know that we will be adding an E Day to the schedule. This week specials schedule is as follows:
Thanks so much for all of your donations to our room! They will help out our class the entire year! I will leave you with some pictures from our center and math time in our room the past few days! Enjoy!
