Holidays Around the World

As you may have heard from your student, last week we learned about all different holidays celebrated around the world! Our class traveled to the United States, Germany, Holland, Africa, and Israel. We learned all about traveling, what a passport was, and using suitcases! The kids got to make their own suitcase and create their own passport, when they traveled to each country, they received a stamp when they entered the country, just like a real passport!

Here's some pictures of what the children made in other countries. They got to teach me all about it since I didn't get to travel to different countries!

Meet A Kindergartener: Ethan

Ethan was our Owl of the Week last week! Ms. Schlegel had a CRAZY week and forgot to take a picture of all of the fun things that Ethan brought to school before I packed it up for him to take home! But he brought us three books that our class LOVED! He also brought lots of pictures of him, his brother, and his family including ones of him dressed as a superhero!

One word to describe Ethan is funny. He wants a Nerf Bow and Arrow, dislikes carrots, and can't wait to go to Disney World. Ethan likes playing trains with Daddy, riding the 4 wheeler, and going to his grandparents house.

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Ethan!

Just an update..

Hi there!

We have a couple busy weeks coming up in Kindergarten and lots and lots of projects, crafts, and snacks we are doing!

Once again, if you would be willing to help out with donating anything to our classroom, shoot me an email and I can let you know what kinds of things we may be needing now as well as after we come back from break. As you can imagine with 18 kindergarteners, we are running low on many supplies! Some of these things are items for our classroom, and some are things we will be needing for some of the special things we are going to be doing!

Be watching for a note coming home about a special thing on December 20th, as well as some important information about the next few weeks!

I hope you are all having a great weekend and staying warm in this snow!

Elfie's Adventures

Elfie had some crazy adventures in our room last night! We found him this morning hanging from our doorway on a swing that he made!

Yesterday, we started our pattern book of where Elfie might go while visiting the United States. We will continue these pattern books for different countries around the world!

We have been working on lots of different adjectives, so today we got to draw and color a picture of Elfie and explain him using different adjectives. Some of our favorites were cute, hungry, silly, sneaky, and awesome!

We're having so much fun with Elfie!

We have a visitor in our room!

As some of your kids might have told you, we have someone visiting our room for the month of December!

Meet Elfie!

Elfie showed up on Tuesday morning when the kids got here and we learned about him, read his book, and the poem he left us!

We got to vote on what his name was going to be and we are so excited to see the adventures he's going to have in our classroom! Stay tuned to see some of the places Elfie has explored!

Thanksgiving Week!

It is almost Thanksgiving Break! I can't believe how fast this year feels like it's flying by! I wanted to share with you some of the things we have been doing lately in our room!

Last week, we had different groups of kids give their idea of "How to cook a turkey." This is one of my favorite things to do with little kids! They were so serious and all decided as a group the best way to cook a turkey, what to serve with it, and what to put on it. It was a ton of fun and they laugh every time they hear one of their recipes! They think that maybe you will use one of their recipes for Thanksgiving dinner at home! :) If you want a copy of your child's' recipe, let me know and I can send one home!

Enjoy!

We also got back quite a few turkeys that were sent home to decorate as a family! These are all up in the hallway at school and they have so much fun walking by and finding their turkey as well as getting to see all of the items other kids used to decorate theirs!

We did some turkey painting, talked about what we are thankful for, and also made some turkeys encouraging other people to eat things other than turkeys for Thanksgiving!

We talked about what we were thankful for, made some turkey hats, and learned our awesome turkey poem! It was a fun week!

I hope you enjoy your long break! See you all on Tuesday!

Thanksgiving Riddle
I am not a drumstick,
No not yet!
I need to eat more,
So fat I'll get!
Corn is what I like
And lots of grain.
Sometimes I gobble,
 Can you guess my name?

If you guessed my name
On your first try.
You know I have a problem,
I don't have to tell you why.
If you would be so kind,
I have one wish.
Help me out,
Eat eat some FISH!

Meet A Kindergartener : Grace

Grace was our Owl of the Week this week! One word to describe Grace is nice! She likes going shopping with Mommy, going to Grandma's house, and coloring with her sisters. Grace can't wait to open her Christmas presents! Grace brought a lot of books for us to read!

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Grace!

Reminders

We have been so busy lately in Kindergarten!

We have just taken our Unit 2 math test and started Unit 3 on Monday! Week 4 of Literacy started on Monday as well! I can't believe we've been in school this long already!

Just a few reminders of some things coming up :
  • Holiday book orders went home in Wednesday folders last week. If you were thinking of buying any books for anyone for Christmas or anything, this is a great book order to pick from! There are some really great books for amazing prices! We have earned so many awesome books for our classroom because of the amount of orders we have had turned in so thank you for that! November 22nd is the due date!
  • Meadow Lane t-shirt order forms also went home in Wednesday folders last week. These orders are due by November 22nd. There is a sample shirt on the order form and in the front hallway at Meadow Lane!
  • Thanksgiving Break starts Wednesday, November 27th. Tuesday, November 26th is a PLC day and Monday, December 2nd is a no school day as well. I hope your kiddos enjoy this long, much needed break!
  • We practiced some code red drills in our room and school last week. Ask your student if they know what to do if a code red ever happens. They should hopefully be able to tell you exactly what their job is!
  • We got 5 Brownies on Wednesday and got to have an extra recess outside! We had a ton of fun playing in all the leaves that were all over our playground!
  • Don't forget to return your decorated turkeys for us to hang up in the hallway!
I hope you have a great weekend and are ready for a quick week back before Thanksgiving!

Meet A Kindergartener: Taylor

Taylor was the Owl of the Week this week! One word to describe Taylor is bouncy. She wants a baby kitten, doesn't like tomatoes, and loves dolls, movies, and play doh. Taylor brought a fairy, a witch, and a Disney Halloween book for us to read!

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Taylor!

Halloween

We had a ton of fun on Halloween in our classroom!

We started with a balloon pumpkin filled with prizes inside. The students got to pop the balloons to find their fall prize!

Then we got to go outside and play lots of fun Fall games with some of our other Kindergarten friends! There was pumpkin bowling, pin the nose on the pumpkin, a ring toss, pumpkin bowling, some fun math matching games, and many more! We had a lot of fun outside working together with a partner!

After specials, we got to create our own snack using lots of ingredients like rice crispies, m and m's, twizzlers, and frosting!

We had a ton of fun on Thursday! I hope you had a great time celebrating too!
