Meet A 2nd Grader: Brooklyn

Brooklyn was our Owl of the Week this week!

Brooklyn does not like homework and she can't wait to see her Dad. She loves her friends, her mom and dad, and her husky. If Brooklyn could have one wish, she would wish for unlimited wishes!

Brooklyn is a really great friend to everyone in our room and loves to help out her classmates and teacher!

Brooklyn brought a stuffed Santa Clause to show our class and some really cool rocks her Grandma found in Israel. She shared a Despicable Me 2 book, Ninja Meerkats, and If I Were A Toad.

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Brooklyn!

Butterfly Release!

We let our butterflies go last week! Our kids were kind of sad because we had raised them from when they were caterpillars and now they are out in our courtyard! They flew everywhere and we all got to hold them!

Meet a 2nd Grader: Benjamin

Benjamin was our first Owl of the Week for our students!

Benjamin likes to be called Ben or Benny in our classroom. He really wants a trampoline and does NOT like scary movies! Ben loves to go to Lost in Fun and Champions Fun Center. His one wish right now is to get new electric race cars.

Ben is a hard worker and always does his job. He is a good friend to all of the students in our room and he loves to learn!

Ben brought a lot of pictures of his family to show us! Some from when he was a baby, visiting Santa, at the Pumpkin Patch, and winning a contest! Ben also brought us his favorite chapter book and a book that his Grandma recorded her voice on so he could hear it whenever he wants. His favorite toy is his Yeti Catcher and he demonstrated how he plays with this at home.

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Ben!

Meet a 2nd Grader: Ms. Schlegel

In our classroom we will be doing something called Owl of the Week! A paper will come home with your student sometime this year on a Friday explaining all there is to know! Basically, your child will fill out the paper about them, include a picture or draw one, and bring with them pictures of them, a favorite toy (that they are okay keeping at school all week), and a couple of their favorite books to read to our class. Throughout the week we will be learning a little bit more about each other and their items will be displayed in our classroom.

The first Owl of the Week is your teacher, Ms. Schlegel!

I am from Columbus NE and grew up with an older brother and two sisters. I moved to Lincoln for college to get my degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education. When I graduated, I was a substitute for a semester and got a Kindergarten teaching job at Meadow Lane in the summer! At the end of the year I made the switch to 2nd grade and I am loving it so far!

I live with Adam, Wrigley the puppy, and Perry the cat and we love to be outside, ride bikes, travel, and spend time with our family and friends. Wrigley and Perry make for some really funny stories for me to tell in our classroom! I am a photographer and own Bliss Photo. I take pictures of newborns, kids, families, engagements, seniors, and weddings. It is a super fun job that I get to do when I am not teaching and I love it so much!

My two favorite books that I brought are ones from my childhood. Flea Flicker was given to me by my great grandma and it has two books on each side (The kids thought that was pretty cool!) My Little Mermaid Adventure is a personalized book given to me as a gift for my 4th birthday and is about me and my cousins as mermaids. We had a fun time reading these books!

(This is actually Ms. Schlegel's paper from last year so a couple things have changed :))

More Butterflies :)

Ms. Schlegel is doing a little blog catch up today! Here are a few pictures from when we found out that our butterflies had come out of the chrysalis! We were so excited when we came into the room!

We did a fun, simple butterfly craft where all of the butterflies stages of life was on one paper! I hope your child showed you all 4 and how to make them on their strip of paper!

Guess what?!

WE HAVE BUTTERFLIES!! :)

When I came in this morning, I had forgotten about the butterflies in their chrysalis when Mrs. Hankins asked me if I had any butterflies come out. I was so excited to go check and when I walked over there we have a couple flying around our butterfly net!

We will wait until all of our butterflies come out and then we will release them into our Meadow Lane courtyard!
