Valentine's Day!

I know Ms. Schlegel seems to say that every fun day in 2nd grade is her favorite, but Valentine's Day really is my all time favorite day! How can you go wrong with love and games and just having fun! We had a little bit of a Valentine's Day celebration with Bingo, some movies, and opening up all of our Valentine's from our friends in our room!

Kitchen Tour

On Friday we got to go on a tour of the kitchen to see where our school breakfasts and lunches are made! A few weeks ago, when we were in the middle of our Nutrition unit, we learned some facts about the kitchen like how many lunches are served in LPS every day. We did a bunch of math learning how much money is spent every day and year to feed our students. Miss Brenda let us walk through the kitchen and showed us how it all works to make this happen every school day!

We saw the dishwasher and learned that it washes dishes in 2 minutes! So they get a lot done fast! We got to look in all of the huge refrigerators, see the oven where our food is cooked, the freezers, and the assembly line of what they were preparing for Fridays lunch. Our favorite part was seeing the HUGE pot they make spaghetti in! Thanks Brenda for sharing your space with us!

Valentine's Day Reminder

Dear Parents,

Second graders will have a valentine exchange and party on Friday, February 13th.  Students interested in exchanging valentines should bring a valentine for each member of the class (we have 20 students and 3 adults) I encourage you to have your child not write out individual student names on the Valentine’s as it is much easier to put them in bags without finding the exact student it is meant for!

Please bring something sealed that has not been processed in a facility with peanuts or contains any gelatin. Students will make their individual bags to hold Valentine’s they receive at school.

The party will be held at the end of the day.  Students may begin bringing their valentines to school on Monday, February 9th.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.  Thank you!

100th Day of School

I somehow completely forgot to post about our 100th Day of School! Our class will tell you that the 100th Day is way up on my ranking of my absolute favorite day of year! We had so much fun learning about the projects some of our friends brought in, completing some 100th day activities in math and reading, and finishing up with our 100th Day snack while some of us were even dressed like we were 100 years old!

We also made a display in the hallway of "100 Reasons We Love Meadow Lane!"

Enjoy the many pictures from the day!

Taste Testing

Today we had a special morning!

Brenda from the lunch room brought in some things for our class to taste test that went along with our Nutrition unit! We got some tomatoes and blueberries.

Almost all of the class loved the blueberries and we only had a couple that loved the tomatoes too! Next Friday we get to finish our Nutrition unit up with a tour of our Meadow Lane kitchen that we are all so excited about!

Owl of the Week: Jeramiah

Jeramiah was our Owl of the Week this week!

Jeramiah thinks he is cute! He brought in a special toy dog that he got!

Jeramiah loves to be in school and be around all of his friends from our class and other classes! He lives with his sisters and loves to see them around school too!

Jeramiah lived in California, and loves to go back there to visit!
