How to Cook A Turkey!

This is my probably one of my favorite things to do with kids throughout the year! They meet with their reading groups and we have a conversation about how to cook a turkey. They are so serious and they always turn out so great! Here are our class recipes this year!

BIST rules

On this short week, we are spending some time going over our BIST Behavior plan and all of the rules associated with it. We reviewed our two bottom line rules:
  • It is never okay to be hurtful
  • It is never okay to be disruptive
Then we went over our Meadow Lane School rules:
  • Be Safe
  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
We talked about examples of being safe, respectful, and responsible and also non-examples of these three things. The children thought about which one of these rules was the hardest for them, and then they went to a part of the room to represent their hardest rule. When paired with others who felt the same way about themselves, they took part in discussions about why this rule was the hardest for them to follow and examples of those things. One person from each group did an overview of what the group talked about in their discussion and now each child has a personal goal that they can work on based on which rule they decided was the hardest for them!

Chet Ager

Last week we had a blast at Chet Ager Nature Center! We learned all about life cycles, different animals and plants and we managed to stay warm enough in the freezing weather! We bundled up tight!

Meet A Second Grader: Brynlee

Brynlee was our Owl of the Week this week!

Brynlee describes herself as kind. She wants kinetic sand and she dislikes bees. She can't wait to go to Coco Keys in Omaha!

Brynlee LOVES pictures! She is a really good helper around the room and is always finding something she can do for others.

She brought in tons of pictures for us to show her over the years including some books her family makes for each year. She also brought some rocks she has collected and her favorite book.

Thanks for being the Owl of the Week, Brynlee!

Math Fact Practice

Today we did some math fact practice in our room! We got 5 minutes to complete the problems to see how many we could complete correctly.

We will do this again in a couple months to see how much we have learned and put all of our strategies to work!

Drug Free Videos

A couple weeks ago we wrapped up our Drug Danger unit during Red Ribbon week! Part of our jobs were to create Drug Free songs with our table partners. I love that I get to spend every day with this hilarious kiddos. They make me laugh all day long! These turned out pretty clever.

It's funny how some of them get SO embarassed in front of the camera when I didn't know shy was a word that was in their vocabulary :)

Not everyone wanted to share but we all contributed to the writing!

Enjoy these amazing songs!! (Sorry about some of the sound)

Literacy Time

Every Monday during our Literacy time, we read the story out of our Key Book in our room. Tuesday, we partner read and yesterday we filled out graphic organizers to go with this story.

These graphic organizers that we did yesterday were all about author's purpose and clues that lead us to the author's purpose.

I was so proud of all of our class for working with partners so well and doing their jobs!
