Book Parade

This note went home in Wednesday folders today (February, 26th)

It is about the Book Parade that is happening on Monday, March 3rd starting at 9:15am. Your child will be able to dress as their favorite character from a book and carry the book while parading through the hallways at Meadow Lane for parents and friends! Please remember to send your child with their costume over their clothes or with a change of clothes as they are not to wear their costume all day. After the parade is over, you are free to join us in our room for reading with your child and their classmates. Let me know if there are any questions!

Valentine's Day!

Our class was very excited for Valentine's Day! As a child, it was one of my favorite holidays to celebrate in the classroom and we had lots of fun Friday!

We started our morning by playing a matching game with hearts. We had to really use our observation skills to check who was our match and move the heart around to see if it was going to work. We played this game quite a few times and really enjoyed it! We used great teamwork to help each other out!

We made some crafts that were little Valentine's hangers. We quickly started to realize that our glue did not want to stick to our cups, and our little Valentine wasn't working as well as we wanted it to! So we tried to make up for it using staples and glue and it didn't work much better! So we learned our lesson with glue and won't be trying that again!

We played Valentine's Bingo and got to pass out all of our Valentine's in bags to open and read through at the end of the day! The kids loved getting Valentine's from their friends! Thanks for being such great parents!

Ms. Schlegel's Family Came To Visit

During lunch, Ms. Schlegel got a call from her nieces and nephew (that have been begging her to come see her classroom and meet the kindergarteners!) and they were in Lincoln with my mom and wanted to come visit. After specials, we had a surprise when we came back in the room as they were all here to read a book!

Tracey (Ms. Schlegel's mom) read a book about Valentine's Day that got us excited for Friday and celebrating in our classroom! Then Callen, who is a first grader, read one of the books from our room. This gave lots of our kids some big motivation to read that same book on their own in the next few days and many of them did great! Addison read another book on the camera as well!

They loved having visitors and can't wait to have more sometime soon. Some of Ms. Schlegel's family finally got to come visit and they loved it!

Hand Washing in Kindergarten!

We've been so busy in Kindergarten that it's been hard to find time to get stuff up on the blog for you! But today I'm playing catch up, so there are a lot of posts coming your way!

First up, last Tuesday we had our hand washing demonstration in our room. The students got to put on lotion and put their hands underneath a black light to see the germs on their hands. After learning how to properly wash hands and for how long, they washed up and put their hands back under the light. Some of them got to see which parts they missed or need to spend more time on as the germs were still showing near lots of fingernails and thumbs! This was a fun experiment about body basics and staying healthy! Many more of these will be coming soon!

Then we took a quick quiz about what we do before we come to school in the morning!
